Part 11

The busy bus station seemed to fall completely silent.

Jenna stared at him, her lips parted, the tears finally spilling over and running down her cheeks.

"You... you love me?" she whispered, as if the words were too heavy to carry.

"With everything I have," Nathan said, his hand moving from her wrist to cup her cheek gently.

"I didn't realize it until I walked into that house today and found it empty again."

"The money, the titles... they're nothing without you and Daisy. You are my family, Jenna. If you leave, you take my home with you."

Daisy dropped her teddy bear and ran over, wrapping her arms around Nathan’s leg.

"Are we going back to the big house, Nathan? I don't like the bus station. It smells like old feet."

Nathan laughed, a sound full of raw emotion, and reached down to scoop Daisy into his arms, holding her tight against his chest.

He looked back at Jenna, extending his hand to her.

"Come home with me, Jenna. Not as my estate manager."

"As my partner. As my equal."

Jenna looked at his hand, then at the look of absolute devotion in his blue eyes.

The wall she had built around her heart for three long years finally crumbled entirely.

She reached out and slid her hand into his.

"Okay," she whispered, a bright, beautiful smile breaking through her tears.

"Let's go home."

One year later...

The snow was falling heavily outside the Calloway estate, covering the grounds in a thick, pristine blanket of white.

Inside, the grand dining room was a scene of warmth and chaotic joy.

The twelve-seat dining table was no longer empty.

It was packed.

Marcus was there, laughing as he raised a glass of eggnog.

The local family who ran the catering business sat alongside them, sharing stories.

And at the head of the table sat Nathan and Jenna, their hands clasped tightly under the table.

On Jenna’s finger, a simple, elegant diamond ring caught the light of the fireplace.

The media storm had passed long ago. When Nathan threatened to walk away, the board of directors realized they couldn't run the company without his genius, and they quickly issued a public apology to Jenna.

But Nathan had still stepped down as CEO, taking a position as Chairman instead, allowing him to work from home and spend every afternoon with his family.

"Hey, look!" Daisy shouted, pointing out the window.

"The snow is making the house look rich again!"

Nathan smiled, pulling Jenna closer to his side.

"It doesn't need the snow for that anymore, Daisy," he said softly.

He reached into his vest pocket and pulled out a small, framed object, placing it on the center of the dining table.

It was the tiny, wrinkled wrapper of a candy cane, carefully preserved and framed in gold.

"Because the most valuable thing in this house," Nathan said, looking at Jenna and then at Daisy, "is the fact that we're sharing it."

Jenna rested her head on his shoulder, her heart full, listening to the laughter filling the room.

The house was no longer empty.

The light had been passed back, and this time, it was never going out.
