Chapter 11 - The First Decree

-11-
The grand ballroom of the Solmere Hotel was transformed by midday into an emergency shareholders' assembly. Gone were the glittering chandeliers casting fractured, superficial light; instead, the massive room was flooded with the harsh, honest glare of midday sun pouring through the restored glass dome overhead. Hundreds of minority shareholders, junior executives, international partners, and domestic media representatives filled the tiered seating, murmuring anxiously among themselves.
The podium at the front of the room was crafted from solid mahogany, bearing the restored Solmere crest in polished brass.
When the side doors opened, absolute silence fell over the massive room.
Charlotte Solmere walked down the center aisle alone. She wore a completely restored, custom charcoal-gray suit with silver accents, her hair caught in a severe, elegant chignon, her posture radiating absolute command. The bruise on her cheek had been expertly covered, but the fierce, unyielding intensity in her slate-gray eyes needed no disguise.
She walked up the steps to the podium, placing her hands flat on the polished wood. She looked out across the sea of faces—people who had whispered about her family’s downfall just twenty-four hours ago, people who had watched her dragged across the lobby floor without lifting a finger.
“Good afternoon,” Charlotte’s voice rang out through the state-of-the-art audio system, clear, calm, and carrying an effortless authority that demanded absolute attention.
“Yesterday, this hotel was a theater of corruption,” she began, her gaze sweeping slowly across the rows of seats. “An illegal cabal, operating under the protection of corrupted board members and an absentee shadow trust, attempted to dismantle everything my family built, turning a sanctuary of luxury into an instrument of fraud and violence.”
A sharp intake of breath rippled through the audience. Cameras flashed furiously from the press gallery in the back, recording every single syllable.
“Effective 9:00 AM this morning,” Charlotte continued, her voice never wavering, “every single member of the previous executive board has been permanently stripped of their titles, their shares, and their assets. Arthur Sterling and Richard Vance are currently in federal custody awaiting trial. And the phantom corporate entity known as Aegis Holdings has been dissolved under emergency judicial restructuring.”
A low murmur of shock and awe spread through the crowd. Several major investors exchanged stunned, disbelieving glances.
“As the sole legal owner and rightful heir of the Solmere Empire,” Charlotte said, leaning slightly forward over the podium, her eyes locking onto the camera lenses, “I am issuing my first executive decree.”
She paused for a fraction of a second, letting the absolute weight of her words sink into the room.
“From this moment forward, the Solmere Hotel Group will undergo a total, uncompromising audit of every financial asset, every management contract, and every security protocol across all global properties. We are purging every vestige of greed, corruption, and elitist intimidation from our walls. The Solmere name will no longer stand for exclusion, arrogance, or cruelty. It will stand for absolute excellence, transparency, and unyielding integrity.”
She raised her head, her gaze sweeping across the room one final time with fierce, unstoppable power.
“If anyone in this room, or in any of our properties worldwide, believes they can operate above the law or treat human beings as disposable trash... let my arrival yesterday serve as your final warning.”
She stepped back from the podium.

For two long seconds, the room remained dead silent. Then, a single junior executive in the third row started clapping. Within three seconds, the entire ballroom erupted into a deafening, thunderous standing ovation. Hundreds of people stood up, applauding not out of fear, not out of sycophancy, but out of absolute, hard-earned respect.
Charlotte didn't smile. She didn't wave. She simply turned and walked off the stage, her head held high, knowing that the empire was finally back where it belonged.
