PART 4

The Price of the Truth

Six months had passed since the night everything collapsed.

The Robles family was no longer the family everyone admired.

The mansion parties stopped.

The expensive cars disappeared.

The endless stories about Diego’s success became silent whispers about his lies.

But Sofía did not celebrate his downfall.

She simply moved forward.

She knew revenge would never heal the years she had lost.

What healed her was watching her daughters smile without fear.

One afternoon, Sofía was leaving her new office when she saw Diego standing outside.

He looked different.

The confidence was gone.

The expensive suit was replaced by a simple shirt.

The man who once walked like he owned the world now looked like someone who had finally realized he had lost everything.

—Sofía —he said quietly.

She stopped.

—What do you want, Diego?

He lowered his eyes.

—To apologize.

For a moment, Sofía said nothing.

Then she answered:

—An apology does not erase ten years.

Diego swallowed hard.

—I was wrong.

—Yes, you were.

—Your mother was wrong too.

Sofía looked at him.

—No. She knew exactly what she was doing.

Diego had no answer.

Because deep inside, he knew it was true.

He had watched every humiliation.

Every insult.

Every moment his daughters were treated as if they were less.

And he had chosen silence.

Sofía stepped closer.

—The worst thing you did was not letting your mother hurt me.

Her voice became softer.

—The worst thing you did was teaching my daughters that their father would not protect them.

Those words broke something inside him.

Because they were true.

A few weeks later, Diego signed the divorce papers.

There were no screams.

No revenge.

No public fight.

Just two people accepting that something broken could not be repaired.

Sofía walked away with her daughters.

And this time, she did not look back.
