Part 10

“Get away from her!” Robert’s voice boomed across the yard, carrying the full weight of an enraged father and grandfather. He marched up the porch steps, grabbing Logan by the shoulder of his wet jacket and spinning him around, forcing him away from the door.
Logan didn't fight back. He stumbled backward, looking at his father with a mix of childhood fear and adult desperation. “Dad, please, I’m just trying to talk to her! I’m not trying to hurt anyone!”
“You’ve already done enough damage!” Robert shouted, stepping between Logan and the door, shielding Joanna and the house. “You abandoned your responsibilities, you broke this girl's heart, and now you think you can just show up here and disrupt the peace we’ve built? You have no right to be here!”
“He is my son too, Dad!” Logan yelled back, finally showing a flash of the Wright stubbornness. “I made a horrible, unforgivable mistake, but he carries my blood! You didn't give up on me for five years, so don't you dare lock me out of my son’s life now!”
The two men stood in the pouring rain, staring at each other. The physical resemblance between them was striking—the same height, the same posture, the same fiery intensity in their eyes. It was a confrontation five years in the making, sparked by a tiny baby crying inside the house.
Joanna watched them through the glass door. She looked at Robert, who had become her protector, and she looked at Logan, who was broken and bleeding emotional tears on her porch. She knew that if she kept the door closed, Robert would call the police and Logan would be gone forever. Oliver would grow up without a father, just like she had planned.
But she also saw the genuine remorse in Logan’s eyes. She saw a man who had hit rock bottom and was begging for a chance to change his life. More importantly, she didn't want Oliver to grow up surrounded by bitterness and hidden family secrets.
Slowly, Joanna unlocked the screen door and pushed it open.
The two men stopped arguing instantly, turning to look at her.
“Robert, please step aside,” Joanna said softly but firmly.

Robert looked at her in surprise. “Joanna, you don't have to do this. I can make him leave.”
“I know you can,” Joanna said, offering Robert a grateful look. “But this is my decision now.” She turned her gaze to Logan, who was watching her breathlessly. “Come inside out of the rain, Logan. Let’s talk.”
