Chapter 3 - THE ECHOES OF THE PAST

The morning light was sharp and cold.

Eleanor clutched the documents to her chest.

She sat on the floor of her closet.

She reread the pages over and over again.

The truth was far worse than she feared.

Leo was not just a child of an affair.

He was the biological son of Charles.

But Julian was not a Vance at all.

The revelation sent a chill through her.

She realized the depth of the deception.

Victoria had orchestrated this entire plot.

She had swapped the children at birth.

She had kept the true heir in the dark.

She had made the true son a servant.

Eleanor felt a wave of nausea hit her.

The cruelty was deliberate and calculated.

She understood why they hated the boy.

He was the proof of their complex sin.

They feared the truth would be exposed.

They needed to keep him under their boot.

She wiped a tear from her cheek now.

She realized she had to be very smart.

She could not expose them quite yet.

She needed a plan to get them out.

She needed to find a safe location.

She needed to secure their financial base.

She would start to manipulate the games.

She would play the part of the victim.

She would lead them to believe she failed.

She would hide her newfound knowledge.

She stood up and hid the files well.

She placed them behind the loose tile.

It was a perfect hiding spot for now.

She went to the kitchen for breakfast.

She saw Victoria sitting at the table.

The woman was drinking her tea calmly.

She didn't look like a woman of sin.

She looked like a queen of the house.

Eleanor felt a spark of pure hatred.

She forced a smile onto her face now.

She bowed her head in a submissive way.

Victoria smirked at her display of fear.

She thought she had broken her spirit.

She thought Eleanor was easily controlled.

Little did she know the power shifted.

Charles entered the room with a scowl.

He didn't even acknowledge his wife.

He went straight to the coffee pot.

He looked tired and clearly frustrated.

The company was facing a huge crisis.

The stocks were dropping every single day.

Eleanor saw a chance to help the fall.

She could leak the information to press.

She could destroy their reputation fast.

But that was for a later time today.

She needed to feed the boy first.

She went to get Leo from his room.

He was sitting on his bed looking sad.

She hugged him tightly to her heart.

They would leave this place very soon.

They would have a new life of peace.

They would never look back on the pain.

She walked him down to the garden.

They sat under the old willow tree.

The wind blew softly through the leaves.

It felt like a whisper of freedom.

She told him stories of a new home.

She told him about the wide, open sea.

She told him about the bright stars.

He listened with wide and curious eyes.

He believed in her promise of safety.

She was his only comfort in the world.

She was his protector and his guide.

She watched the house from the lawn.

She saw the curtains move in the room.

She knew they were being watched closely.

She acted as if she was just resting.

She played the part of the tired wife.

It was a performance of their lives.

She needed to fool them into comfort.

She needed them to drop their guards.

The afternoon passed in slow motions.

She returned to the house for lunch.

The air was thick with hidden tension.

Victoria made a remark about her scar.

She said it added character to her face.

Eleanor just nodded her head silently.

She didn't react to the cruel jab.

She kept her head down in submission.

Charles seemed pleased with her silence.

He thought he had regained total control.

He was blinded by his own arrogance.

The dinner was a quiet, tense affair.

Nobody spoke about the night before.

It was as if nothing had happened.

The silence was louder than any shout.

Eleanor felt the shift in the air.

The Vances were preparing for a move.

They were planning to sell the estate.

They were planning to leave the area.

She had to move faster than they did.

She had to act before they escaped.

She went to bed with a heavy mind.

She plotted the next step of the game.

The truth would be their undoing soon.

She would watch them fall from grace.

She was the architect of their doom.

May you like

She lay in the dark and waited now.

The morning would bring a new fire.
