Alexander refused to let Harper and Mason remain in a house filled with painful memories. During the next six months, he completely renovated the Langley estate—not to make it grander, but to make it feel like a real home again.
Every room the children had feared was transformed.
The cold guest wing became a bright learning center.
The formal dining room became a family room where no meal was ever eaten in silence.
The backyard, once the place where Harper had begged for mercy beside the doghouse, became a children's garden with swings, flowers, and a small pond filled with colorful koi fish.
Harper slowly learned to laugh without looking over her shoulder.
She returned to school, where counselors helped her overcome the nightmares that had haunted her every night.
Mason grew into a cheerful toddler who followed his sister everywhere.
One afternoon, Alexander found Harper carefully placing fresh flowers beneath a framed photograph of her late mother.
"I still miss her every day," Harper whispered.
"I do too," Alexander admitted.
Harper looked up.
"Do you think she'd be happy now?"
Alexander smiled softly.
"I think she's been watching you all along."
"And I think she's incredibly proud of the young lady you've become."
