Chapter 5

The Public Execution

The afternoon of the emergency board meeting arrived, and the atmosphere inside the Sterling Holdings skyscraper was thick with anticipation. The media had gathered outside the lobby, tipped off by Margaret’s PR team that a major announcement regarding the leadership of the multibillion-dollar firm was imminent.

Margaret sat at the center of the boardroom table, clad in a sharp white suit, her expression a masterclass in tragic, dignified grief. Surrounding her were twelve of the company's oldest board members, men she had bought and paid for through decades of political favors and elite social connections.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice," Margaret said, her voice soft and trembling with artificial emotion. "It breaks my heart to say this, but my son, Daniel, has proven himself incapable of managing the stress of our family crisis. His obsession with his poor, unstable wife has compromised his judgment. I have the psychological evaluations here, proving that Ava is a danger to herself and others, and Daniel’s refusal to place her in a proper care facility is destroying our corporate stability."

"The evaluations are a forgery, Mother."

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Daniel strode into the room, but he wasn't alone. He was pushing Ava’s wheelchair. Ava sat perfectly erect, wearing a stunning, emerald-green dress that contrasted beautifully with her porcelain skin. There was no trace of madness in her eyes—only a sharp, lethal intelligence that stunned the entire room into silence. Behind them walked Marcus and two federal agents in dark suits.

Margaret’s face tightened, her eyes narrowing as she glared at her son. "Daniel! This is a private executive session. How dare you bring that hysterical girl into this boardroom?"

"The only hysterical person in this room, Margaret, is you," Ava said, her voice echoing with absolute clarity and power. She reached forward and connected her digital tablet to the main boardroom projector screen.

The lights dimmed automatically, and a massive document flickered onto the wall. It wasn't a medical report. It was a comprehensive federal indictment for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and first-degree attempted murder.
