Part 12
The tension in the shattered living room was thick enough to cut with a knife.
The cold lake wind rushed through the broken window,
blowing the curtains wildly around them.
Ava managed to push herself up against the base of the couch,
her eyes fixed on Julian.
She knew she could not fight physically,
but she refused to let fear paralyze her mind.
"You are a coward,
Julian,"
Ava said,
her voice ringing out clearly over the wind.
"You hide behind thugs because you cannot face the consequences of your actions."
Julian turned his furious gaze toward her,
his knuckles turning white on the iron bar.
"Silence,"
he roared,

taking a step toward her with the weapon raised.
Ethan reacted instantly,
lunging forward to tackle Julian before he could reach his wife.
They crashed into the coffee table,
sending books and decorative items flying across the room.
The two masked thugs moved to assist their boss,
but Lena showed incredible,
unexpected bravery.
She grabbed a heavy ceramic vase from the side table and smashed it over one thug's head.
The man groaned,
stumbling backward into the wall as the vase shattered into pieces.
The second thug grabbed Lena,
throwing her toward the kitchen counter as she fought back fiercely.
Meanwhile,
Ethan and Julian wrestled on the floor,
fighting for control of the iron crowbar.
Julian was fueled by pure,
desperate madness,
giving him surprising and dangerous physical strength.
He managed to throw Ethan off,
scrambling to his feet with the weapon in hand.
Ethan tried to stand,
but Julian kicked him hard in the ribs,
sending him gasping for air.
"Ethan,"
Ava screamed,
trying to crawl toward him despite the intense pain in her legs.
Julian stood over Ethan,
raising the iron bar high above his head with a twisted smile.
"This ends tonight,"
Julian whispered,
preparing to strike a definitive,
shattering blow.
Suddenly,
the loud,
piercing sound of police sirens echoed from the main driveway outside.
Bright red and blue lights flashed through the thick fog,
illuminating the entire front yard.
The front door was kicked open with tremendous force,
splintering the frame completely.
"Police,"
Detective Laura Mitchell shouted,
entering the room with her service weapon drawn.
Several armed officers poured in behind her,
their flashlights blinding the intruders instantly.
"Drop your weapons and put your hands on your head right now,"
Laura ordered firmly.
The two thugs immediately dropped to their knees,
realizing escape was completely impossible.
Julian froze,
the iron bar trembling in his hand as he looked at the officers.
He looked at Ethan,
then at the guns pointed directly at his chest,
realizing it was over.
With a heavy thud,

the crowbar fell from his hand onto the hardwood floor.
"It is over,
Vance,"
Laura said,
stepping forward to place him in handcuffs.
"You are under arrest for attempted murder,
May you like
burglary,
and assault."
