Part 8

The tension inside the lake house reached a breaking point as night fell over the water.

Richard Cole arrived an hour later,

his face pale and covered in raindrops.

He carried a large leather briefcase filled with legal texts and court forms.

"I saw Julian Vance's press statement on the news while driving here,"

Richard said,

setting his bag down.

"He is moving incredibly fast,

Ethan,

he has top tier firms working for him."

"He froze the initiative's accounts by claiming the funds were derived from grand larceny."

Ethan brought the offshore bank documents out of the safe,

placing them before Richard.

"This is our ammunition,"

Ethan said,

his voice tight with urgency.

"Can this overturn his injunction?"

Richard put on his reading glasses,

carefully examining the certified foreign stamps.

He turned page after page,

his expression shifting from worry to sudden amazement.

"This is incredible,"

Richard whispered,

his eyes lighting up with professional excitement.

"This is not just an offshore account,

Ethan."

"Look at the date of the trust agreement creation."

Ava leaned over the table,

trying to understand what the lawyer saw.

"What is significant about the date,

Richard?"

she asked.

"This trust was established five years ago,"

Richard explained,

pointing to the timeline.

"Long before your accident,

long before the trial even began."

"And look at the funding sources listed in the appendix."

"Margaret was funneling money from your father's core corporate logistics entity."

"She was stealing from her own husband's company for years to build this private fund."

Ethan felt a wave of shock hit him,

his father's memory flashing in his mind.

"My father never knew about this,"

Ethan realized,

his voice dropping low.

"He trusted her completely with the financial oversight."

"Exactly,"

Richard nodded vigorously.

"And because this money was stolen from the core corporation,

it belongs to the estate."

"As the sole heir to your father's estate,

Ethan,

this money is legally yours."

"Margaret had no right to transfer it to Julian Vance upon her conviction."

"The entire trust agreement is completely void ab initio under state law."

Lena stepped into the room,

a glimmer of hope finally returning to her eyes.

"Does that mean Julian Vance has no right to that money?"

she asked.

"It means he is in possession of stolen estate property,"

Richard declared triumphantly.

"He is not just a fixer anymore,

he is a receiver of stolen goods."

"We can file an emergency federal counter-suit tomorrow morning at dawn."

"We can charge him with grand theft,

conspiracy,

and illegal asset concealment."

Ava smiled for the first time in days,

looking at her husband.

"We have him,"

she whispered,

her eyes shining with tears of relief.

Ethan gripped the edge of the table,

feeling the tide finally turn.

"Let us prepare the paperwork,

Richard,"

Ethan said firmly.

"We are going to take back what he stole,

and we are going to end this."
