Part 21

A week later, the sleek black town car pulled up in front of the Sterling Hotel once again.
This time, the atmosphere was vastly different; the oppressive gloom that once plagued the building was completely gone.
Marcus stepped out of the car alone, buttoning his suit jacket as he walked through the heavy glass doors.
The lobby was bustling with happy guests and smiling staff, operating like a well-oiled machine.
Behind the front desk stood Maya, the young woman who had taken over during the crisis a week prior.
She was currently assisting a family with their luggage, her demeanor warm, professional, and genuinely kind.
Marcus waited patiently until she finished, stepping up to the desk as the family walked away.
"Welcome back to the Sterling, Mr. Johnson," Maya said, her eyes widening slightly in surprise. "It is an absolute honor to see you again."
"The honor is mine, Maya," Marcus smiled. "You've completely turned this place around in just seven days."
"We just finally have the support we need to do our jobs properly, sir," she replied humbly.
"Maya, I'm actually not here to check on the hotel," Marcus said, leaning slightly against the marble counter.
"I'm here to offer you a job."
Maya blinked, clearly taken aback. "A job, sir? But I am already the general manager here now."
"I know," Marcus said. "But I'm starting a new global initiative aimed at restructuring the corporate culture of service industries worldwide."
He slid a thick, embossed envelope across the counter toward her.
"I need someone with empathy, resilience, and firsthand experience to serve as the Executive Director of Human Operations."
Maya stared at the envelope, her mouth slightly open in shock.
"Mr. Johnson... I don't have a degree from an Ivy League school," she stammered. "I'm just a hotel manager."
"I can hire a thousand people with Ivy League degrees to do math," Marcus said softly. "I can't teach them how to actually care about people."
"You stood your ground during a crisis and treated everyone with respect when it mattered most."
May you like
"Read the contract tonight, Maya. I think you'll find the compensation and the mission quite agreeable."
Marcus gave her a polite nod, turned on his heel, and walked out of the lobby, leaving her holding the keys to her new life.
