Part 22

The grand launch of Project Genesis was held quietly on the top floor of the Johnson Industries central tower.

There was no press, no flashing cameras, and no self-congratulatory speeches from wealthy politicians.

Instead, the room was filled with everyday people who had been elevated to positions of real power.

Maya stood near the glass windows, speaking passionately with a newly appointed regional director who used to be a warehouse foreman.

Marcus stood in the corner of the room, holding a glass of sparkling water, watching his new empire take its first breath.

He had spent his entire life building cold, flawless machines, but looking around this room, he felt a warmth he had never coded.

He felt a small tug on his pant leg and looked down.

Zoe was standing there in a beautiful dark blue dress, holding her teddy bear, looking up at him with a wide smile.

"Daddy, why is everyone so happy?" she asked, looking around the room at the smiling faces.

Marcus knelt down, setting his glass on a nearby table, and picked her up.

"Because they finally have the power to do the right thing," Marcus explained, balancing her easily.

He walked her over to the massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sprawling city below.

The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in brilliant strokes of orange, pink, and deep purple.

"Look at all those lights down there, Zoe," Marcus said, pointing to the city coming alive in the twilight.

"Every one of those lights is a person, and every person deserves to be treated with kindness."

Zoe rested her head on his shoulder, perfectly content in the safety of his arms.

"I like your new fences, Daddy," she whispered softly, her eyes growing heavy.

Marcus smiled, holding her tighter as he looked out over the world he was slowly reshaping.

He knew the battles ahead would be fierce, and the corrupt would fight relentlessly to keep their power.

But he had all the money in the world, the greatest technological mind of a generation, and a promise to keep to his daughter.

And Marcus Johnson never broke a promise.
