CHAPTER 2: The Night Everything Collapsed

The sirens arrived faster than Santiago could think.

At first, he tried to negotiate.

Then he tried to threaten.

Finally… he begged.

"I can fix this," he said, his voice cracking as officers entered the mansion. "Valeria, tell them this is a misunderstanding."

I didn’t move.

I didn’t speak.

I simply watched.

For the first time since I had known him, Santiago Rivas looked small.

The police officer turned to me gently. "Ma’am, are you safe?"

I placed one hand over my belly.

"I am now."

Beatriz attempted one last move.

"You have no proof!" she shouted.

One of the attorneys calmly pressed play on a tablet.

Her voice filled the room.

"Tomorrow you're going to sign those papers… then you'll leave quietly."

The color drained from her face.

Handcuffs clicked.

And just like that—

The illusion of power shattered.

As they were taken away, Santiago turned back to me, his expression twisted between rage and disbelief.

"You’ll regret this," he hissed.

I met his gaze, calm for the first time in years.

May you like

"No," I said softly.

"You will."
