Chapter 3 — The Night I Lost My Mother

Family Court granted an immediate protective order.

My mother was required to leave the house.

As officers escorted her toward the front door, she looked at me with disbelief.

"She's destroying this family."

I shook my head.

"No."

"You did that."

She stopped walking.

"You'll regret this."

I answered with tears in my eyes.

"I've regretted staying silent far longer."

She left without looking back.

The house became incredibly quiet.

For the first time in months...

Anna slept through the entire night.

No footsteps.

No whispered insults.

No fear.

May you like

Just silence.

The kind that finally feels safe.
