Chapter 6 - Mirror Images

The morning sun broke over the Manhattan skyline, casting a warm golden glow across the penthouse living room. The flashing red and blue lights of police cruisers parked three deep on Fifth Avenue painted patterns of light and shadow across the ceiling.
Arthur Vance had been led away in handcuffs, flanked by federal marshals and local detectives. The encrypted drive recovered from his pocket contained a digital paper trail spanning fifteen years—hospital payoffs, adoption agency bribes, and secret offshore transfers that sealed his fate and dismantled his corporate empire in a single morning.
In the kitchen, Julian stood by the marble island, wearing a clean designer sweatshirt and sweatpants that Jonathan had insisted he try on. He was holding a mug of coffee, watching the bustling street below through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Helen walked in quietly, carrying a small, worn leather box. She stopped beside him, her eyes soft with unshed tears.
“How are you holding up?” she asked softly.
Julian looked down at his hands—the scars on his knuckles were still there, a permanent reminder of the life he had lived before yesterday, but the trembling had stopped. “It feels like waking up from a very long, very cold dream,” he admitted. He looked at Helen, a small, tentative smile touching his lips. “Mom. It’s still weird to say it.”
Helen reached out, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and pulling him into a fierce, unbreakable embrace. Julian froze for a second, not quite used to the warmth of unconditional love, before slowly wrapping his arms around her back.

From the doorway, Jonathan leaned against the frame, watching them with a wide grin. “Hey, don't hog all the motherly affection,” Jonathan joked, stepping into the kitchen and joining the hug, sandwiching Helen between her two sons.
The three of them stood there in the quiet morning light—two brothers who had spent fifteen years worlds apart, now bound by blood, survival, and a love that no corporate greed could ever break.
