Chapter 9 - The Fall of an Empire

While the emotional reunion unfolded on the third floor, the final reckoning was taking place in the basement vaults of the Geneva estate.

Julian Sterling—the billionaire chairman of Ascension Bio-Tech—stood before a wall of server monitors in his private underground panic room, frantically attempting to transfer encrypted research data to an off-shore server in South America. He was sixty-eight years old, his white hair immaculately groomed, his expensive suit pristine despite the chaos outside.

CREAK... BANG!

The reinforced steel door of the panic room was blown inward by a hydraulic breaching ram.

Marcus Vance stepped inside, followed by four federal agents from the Swiss Federal Police and Interpol, whom Adrian’s legal team had mobilized using the mountain of evidence retrieved from the forest house in America.

Julian Sterling slowly turned around, his face pale, his hands raised in a gestures of fake innocence.

“Gentlemen,” Sterling said, his voice smooth, cultured, and devoid of remorse. “There has been a terrible misunderstanding. I am a respected international philanthropist. You have no legal jurisdiction to breach my private residence.”

“Save it, Sterling,” the lead Interpol agent said, stepping forward with steel handcuffs. “Julian Sterling, you are under arrest for federal human trafficking, illegal biological harvesting, medical kidnapping, and multiple counts of corporate conspiracy across three international jurisdictions.”

Before the agent could slap the cuffs on Sterling’s wrists, the crowd parted, and Adrian Vale walked into the room.

The atmosphere in the panic room plummeted to absolute zero.

Adrian wore no tactical helmet, no mask. His gray eyes locked onto Julian Sterling with a cold, terrifying authority that made the older billionaire step back until his spine pressed against the warm server rack.

“Adrian...” Sterling swallowed hard, trying to regain his aristocratic composure. “Let us be rational men of business. What happened was purely... a medical necessity for the advancement of human longevity. Your family’s cellular sequence has saved dozens of high-profile lives. I can make you a partner. Billions of dollars, Adrian. We can share the—”

THUD!

Adrian didn't draw a gun. He didn't execute him. Instead, Adrian grabbed Sterling by the lapels of his immaculate suit, driving him back against the steel server rack with a force that rattled the monitors.

“You didn't advance humanity, Sterling,” Adrian said, his voice dropping into a razor-sharp whisper that chilled the air in the room. “You were a parasite who stole a mother from her babies and a son from his father because you were terrified of dying old and alone in your expensive bed.”

Sterling trembled, looking into the eyes of a man who could buy his entire life ten times over. “You... you can’t kill me, Vale. The police are here.”

“I’m not going to kill you, Julian,” Adrian said, his lips curling into a ruthless, cold smile. “Death is quick. It’s merciful. I am going to use every single dollar of the Vale fortune to ensure you spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security medical prison cell. Your company will be liquidated. Your assets will be transferred to a foundation for victims of medical exploitation. Every memory of your name will be erased, while my children grow up strong, free, and loved.”

Adrian let go of Sterling’s collar, letting the old man slump to the floor in absolute disgrace.

The Interpol agents stepped in, pinning Sterling to the floor and snapping the steel cuffs around his wrists, dragging him out through the ruined hallways of his fortress as news helicopters began to circle overhead.

Adrian turned his back on the disgraced billionaire, walking out into the bright morning sunlight that was breaking through the Alpine fog.

Down in the courtyard, Lena sat in the open door of a luxury SUV, holding little Leo in her arms while Milo sat beside her, eating a pastry that Marcus had brought him. Nora stood nearby, pointing toward the snow-capped mountains in the distance, explaining something to Milo with wild, excited hand gestures.

Adrian walked over to them, the heavy weight that had rested on his chest for five long years finally lifting away like dust in the wind.

He climbed into the vehicle beside them, taking Lena’s hand in his, while Milo reached over and rested his tiny hand on top of theirs.

“Where are we going now, Dad?” Milo asked, looking up at Adrian with those familiar, clear gray eyes.

Adrian looked at his wife, his three children, and the bright, endless horizon ahead of them.

“We’re going home, son,” Adrian smiled. “We’re finally going home.”
