The Ghost Protocol / Chapter 20 / 20 0

Part 21

The sirens arrived within minutes,

the flashing lights illuminating the narrow alleyway,

as Marcus and his team secured the injured courier.

The metallic briefcase was unlocked by the federal tech specialists,

revealing not cash,

Không có mô tả ảnh.

but a sophisticated satellite terminal,

programmed with a single active connection.

"It’s a live link to Thorne's private yacht,"

Marcus said,

his face grim as he studied the glowing display,

"He’s sitting just twelve miles offshore,

outside our territorial waters."

"He’s waiting for confirmation from the courier,"

I realized,

staring at the coordinates flashing on the screen.

"We can't touch him out there,

Daniel,"

Marcus sighed,

shaking his head with frustration,

"International maritime law prevents us from launching an assault without a diplomatic mandate."

"You can't touch him,

Marcus,"

I said,

a cold smile finally touching my lips,

"But I don't need a mandate."

I grabbed the terminal,

typing a brief,

encrypted sequence into the keyboard,

using the old bypass codes I had memorized during the Berlin investigation.

Thorne thought he was safe behind legal boundaries,

but he had forgotten that his entire financial empire,

was built on digital servers that I had already breached at Haven Crest.

I linked the satellite feed directly to the federal seizure matrix,

initiating a global freeze on every account associated with his name,

effectively wiping out his multi-million dollar fortune in a single stroke.

The terminal screen blinked once,

then showed a video feed of a luxury yacht cabin,

where an older man with silver hair was sitting behind a desk.

It was Thomas Thorne,

his face aging but unmistakable,

his cold eyes widening with sudden shock as his monitors began to flash red.

"Hello,

Thomas,"

I said,

speaking into the terminal's microphone,

my voice calm and steady.

He looked at the camera,

realizing in an instant who was on the other side of the line,

the realization of his absolute ruin settling over his features.

"Vance,"

he whispered,

his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and defeat.

"You tried to take my daughter,

Thomas,"

I told him,

"And in doing so,

you gave me the key to your destruction.

Your money is gone,

your coordinates are logged,

and the international coast guard has just been notified of an unregistered vessel carrying black-market assets."

He stared at me,

unable to speak,

as the sound of distant horns began to echo over his audio feed,

signaling the approach of the authorities.

I closed the laptop terminal,

cutting off the transmission,

and handed the device back to Marcus.

"The case is closed,

old friend,"

I said,

feeling the last remnants of the old burden lift from my shoulders.

I walked out of the harbor,

leaving the law enforcement teams to handle the final details,

my mind turning completely toward the future.

I arrived back at the federal headquarters an hour later,

where Lily was waiting for me in the main lobby,

her face lighting up with absolute joy as I entered.

We left the building together,

stepping out into the warm,

golden sunlight of a new day,

the shadows of the past finally destroyed.

I was no longer the hunter,

I was no longer the investigator,

May you like

I was simply a father,

and my daughter was finally safe at home.
