Chapter 10 - The Sovereign of the Waterfront

Eighteen months later.

The Inner Harbor of Baltimore was bathed in the warm, glorious sunlight of a late spring afternoon. The Rourke Building stood tall and gleaming against the blue sky, its glass facade reflecting the calm waters below.

In the eighteen months following the defeat of the Moretti family, massive changes had swept through Rourke Maritime Holdings. Vincent had systematically restructured his empire. He liquidated his high-risk illegal smuggling operations, transitioning the syndicate's vast wealth into legitimate real estate, international shipping logistics, and green energy technology.

He was still the most powerful man in the city—no one dared cross him—but he was no longer a man living in the shadows. He was a king who had brought his kingdom into the light.

At 8:10 AM on a sunny Tuesday, the private elevator doors opened on the forty-second floor.

Vincent Rourke stepped out. He wore a perfectly tailored navy suit, looking formidable, powerful, and remarkably happy.

Standing in the wide marble hallway outside his office was an art gallery installation. Hanging on the pristine white walls were dozens of vibrant, beautiful paintings featuring sea landscapes, cityscapes, and warm abstract designs.

Standing on a small stepladder near the far wall was Harper.

She wore paint-splattered denim overalls over a white t-shirt, her hair tied up in a messy bun with a paint-stained pencil tucked behind her ear. She was putting the finishing touches on a massive, seven-foot canvas that dominated the hallway.

The painting depicted a stormy cityscape with a glowing silver elevator shining like a beacon in the center of the dark clouds.

Vincent walked up behind her, sliding his large hands around her waist, pulling her gently back against his chest. He rested his chin on her shoulder, looking at the painting.

"It's finished," Harper said, leaning back into his warm embrace.

"It's breathtaking," Vincent murmured softly, kissing the side of her neck. "Though I still think the guy in the charcoal suit looks a little too grumpy."

Harper giggled, turning around in his arms and wrapping her paint-stained hands around his neck. "He was grumpy! He looked like he wanted to execute me for spilling coffee on his precious twelve-hundred-dollar shoes."

"Best shoes I ever ruined," Vincent smiled, pulling her close and kissing her lips deeply.

A soft cough rang out down the hallway.

Caleb stood near the executive desk, holding a iPad and a thick manila folder. He was wearing a dark suit, but he looked relaxed, his stoic face warm.

"Excuse me, Mr. and Mrs. Rourke," Caleb said formally, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "The board meeting for the new harbor foundation begins in ten minutes. And the catering delivery has arrived."

Harper beamed, stepping down from the ladder. "Did they bring the donuts?"

"Two dozen, glazed," Caleb replied with a slight bow. "Just as you ordered, ma'am."

Harper looked up at Vincent, her brown eyes sparkling with love, joy, and deep contentment. She reached out, adjusting the collar of his suit jacket.

"Ready to go rule the city, mysterious boss?" she teased softly.

Vincent took her hand, lacing his long fingers through hers, looking at the woman who had transformed his entire life from a cold, violent shadow into a bright, vibrant home.

"As long as I'm with you, my love," Vincent whispered, kissing her knuckles. "Always."

Together, hand in hand, the mafia boss and the girl with the coffee walked down the marble hallway into their bright, beautiful future.
