Chapter 10 - THE HEALING DAWN

The sun broke over the Connecticut horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of gold, rose, and amber.
At Yale New Haven Hospital, in a secure private wing guarded round-the-clock by federal marshals and Nathan's most trusted men, the new treatment had been administered.
Marcus and Mason lay side-by-side in a sun-drenched room.
The dark circles under their eyes were already fading. The monitors beside their beds showed strong, regular heart rhythms and rapidly declining heavy-metal toxicity levels.
I stood by the window, watching the morning light reflect off the harbor waters in the distance.
My duffel bag sat by my feet, packed and ready.
The door opened softly. Nathan walked in, carrying two cups of steaming fresh coffee. He had changed into a clean linen shirt, his face looking younger, the agonizing tension of the past eight months finally washed away.
He handed me a cup.
"Black, no sugar. That's how you take it, right?"
"You've been observing me, Mr. Coleman," I said with a faint smile.
"I observe what's important," Nathan replied softly.
He looked over at the beds. Marcus had his eyes open, groggily playing with a toy wooden boat Nathan had placed on the blanket. Mason was sound asleep, breathing deeply and peacefully.
"The toxicologist said they’ll make a one hundred percent recovery," Nathan said, his voice thick with emotion. "No neurological deficits. No permanent organ damage. In two weeks, they’ll be running around the garden."
"They're strong boys, Nathan. They take after their father."
Nathan turned to face me, his eyes searching mine. He noticed my packed bag on the floor.
"You're leaving?" he asked, a subtle edge of urgency in his tone.
"The job is done," I said gently. "The threat is eliminated. Ashford and Castiglione will spend their lives behind bars. Victor Vance is facing life without parole. Your sons are safe. You don't need a tactical field medic anymore."
Nathan took a step closer, closing the distance between us.
"I don't need a field medic, Sarah," Nathan said, his voice deep and sincere. "And my sons don't just need a nanny. For eight months, my house was a tomb. You brought light back into this family. You gave me my life back."
"Nathan..."
"I'm stepping down from the syndicate," Nathan continued, reaching out and gently taking my hand. "I transferred all maritime assets into a clean, legitimate international logistics corporation. No more underworld. No more shadows. I want to build a real life for Marcus and Mason."

He looked at me with an openness that few people on earth had ever seen.
"Stay with us, Sarah. Not as an employee. As part of this family."
