Chapter 11 - The Financial Trap

Viktor Petrov sat behind his massive oak desk in the top-floor executive suite of the North Ward warehouse,

swirling a glass of lukewarm vodka while waiting for his enforcers to report back on the success of their morning acquisitions.

The digital terminal on his desk suddenly flashed a brilliant,

blinding crimson warning light,

accompanied by a high-pitched electronic alarm that signaled an immediate system-wide account lockout.

What is the meaning of this,

Petrov cursed loudly in Russian,

slamming his vodka glass down onto the desk so hard that the crystal cracked right down the middle.

He leaned over the keyboard,

frantically typing his master administrator override code to access the offshore shell companies where millions in laundered syndicate capital were currently sitting in escrow.

Access denied,

the glowing amber terminal screen blinked coldly back at him,

followed by a terrifyingly familiar cryptographic signature flashing across the top of the monitor.

The digital cipher belonged exclusively to Audrey Miller,

the brilliant corporate accountant he had attempted to eliminate less than six hours ago in a calculated bid to destabilize Adrian Cross's financial empire.

She's alive,

Petrov whispered in sudden,

paralyzing disbelief,

his face turning an ash-gray color as the staggering implications of his failure finally crashed down upon him.

She didn't die in that crash,

and now she's locked down every single dollar of our capital transfer pipeline before we could even touch the principal reserves.

Before Petrov could reach for the secure landline on his desk to summon his remaining guards,

the heavy oak double doors of his office exploded inward with a deafening crash of splintered wood and flying brass hardware.

Adrian Cross stepped calmly through the smoke and debris,

May you like

his black wool overcoat trailing slightly behind him in the cool draft,

his flint-hard eyes locked directly onto the trembling Russian mob boss.
