Chapter 14 - Breaking the Resistance

The heavy mahogany doors swung inward with a loud crash,

revealing a spacious,

sunlit foyer adorned with priceless classical art,

marble statues,

and a sweeping curved staircase covered in plush crimson carpeting.

Two private security guards dressed in expensive bespoke suits rushed out from the hallway with drawn sidearms,

shouting frantic warnings for the intruders to drop their weapons immediately.

They barely had time to register the terrifying reality of Adrian's cold,

dead eyes before Marcus and his tactical team swept through the doorway,

neutralizing the resistance with swift,

clinical precision that left no room for error.

The guards dropped their weapons and hit the polished marble floor with muffled thuds,

unconscious before they even realized what had hit them.

Adrian did not break his stride,

walking steadily toward the grand curved staircase that led directly up to the second-floor executive study where Senator Thomas Sterling was undoubtedly waiting in mounting terror.

He ascended the stairs one by one,

his heavy boots echoing sharply through the cavernous foyer like the steady ticking of a doom-laden clock.

At the top of the landing,

a heavy oak door bearing a brass nameplate inscribed with 'Office of the Senator' was locked tightly from the inside,

muttering sounds of frantic telephone calls echoing faintly through the solid wood panels.

Adrian didn't bother knocking this time,

raising his right boot and kicking the center of the door panel with a massive hydraulic force that tore the heavy brass hinges clean out of the reinforced limestone frame.

The door flew inward,

crashing against the interior wall with a thunderous roar,

May you like

exposing Senator Thomas Sterling cowering behind a massive mahogany desk with a satellite phone clutched in his trembling,

sweat-soaked hands.
