Chapter 15 - ZURI'S HEALING

While the Holloway empire collapsed in spectacular fashion,
a different transformation was happening in our small home.
Zuri's physical wounds healed quickly,
the dark bruise fading into a faint yellow mark before disappearing entirely.
But the psychological scars required careful,
loving attention from professionals.
We attended child therapy sessions every week,
where she used art to express her deep feelings.
She painted a picture of a large,
dark house surrounded by bright,
warm sun,
symbolizing her escape.
"The bad place is gone now,
Mommy,"
she told me one afternoon,
holding up a bright drawing of us.
She began to smile again,
her infectious laughter returning to fill our cozy living room.
The school community rallied around her,
her classmates sending handmade cards and sweet gifts.
She no longer asked about her grandfather,
realizing he held no power over her future happiness.
We bought her a new pair of shoes,
bright red flats that she wore proudly everywhere we went.
She was no longer the frightened girl on the cold marble floor,
but a survivor surrounded by genuine love.

Seeing her heal was the ultimate victory,
far sweeter than any corporate destruction.
