Chapter 8 - THE CONFRONTATION OF POWERS

Victoria's father grabbed his daughter's arm, his face twisted in absolute terror.

"Shut up, Victoria! Be quiet right now!" he hissed, turning back to Chloe.

"Miss Harrington, please forgive her, she didn't know!" the father begged frantically.

"We will apologize publicly, we will pay for whatever you want!" he pleaded.

Arthur Harrington stepped forward, standing right beside his granddaughter.

"Your apologies are worthless to us, Mr. Vance," the old man said coldly.

"Your daughter thought she could abuse people just because they were poor."

"She forgot that the wheel of fortune always keeps turning," Arthur declared.

Victoria was trembling with a mixture of intense fear and burning humiliation.

All the cameras that were recording her triumph were now recording her downfall.

She looked around the room, but her friends turned away, refusing to look at her.

High society was brutal; they abandoned the sinking ship without a second thought.

"This isn't fair! She ruined my dress first! She did it on purpose!" Victoria yelled.

She was crying now, her makeup running down her face beneath her mask.

Chloe looked down at her with pure indifference, unaffected by the tears.

"I was a working girl trying to survive, and you treated me like dirt," Chloe said.

"You struck me, you humiliated me, and you threatened to throw me in jail."

"Now, I am going to take everything your family owns, piece by piece," Chloe promised.

She turned her back on Victoria, signaling that the conversation was over.

"Security, please escort these uninvited guests out of my house," Arthur ordered.

Four large, burly security guards immediately stepped forward from the shadows.

They grabbed Victoria and her father by their arms, ignoring their loud protests.

"Let go of me! Do you know who I am?!" Victoria shrieked as she was dragged away.

Her golden mask fell to the floor, shattering instantly into pieces.

The guests watched in silence as the Vance family was thrown out into the cold night.

Chloe picked up her champagne glass, taking a slow, elegant sip of the vintage wine.

The taste was sweet, much sweeter than the bitterness she had endured for years.

She looked at her grandfather, who smiled at her with deep approval and pride.

The first part of her revenge was complete, but she wasn't done yet.

She wanted to ensure that the Vance family could never rise again to hurt anyone else.
