Part 23

As the winter deepened, the stability of their new life was tested by an unexpected professional development.

Daniel’s firm was finalizing a massive international merger that required his personal presence in London.

It was a monumental opportunity for his career, one that would solidify his position as the head of the company.

But the trip required him to be away for five full days, the longest he would ever be separated from Emily and Leo.

"I can delegate it to the vice president," Daniel said one evening in the study, looking torn as he reviewed the itinerary.

"I don't like the idea of leaving you alone in this house for a week, especially with the family dynamics still tense."

Emily walked over to his desk, closing his laptop gently, looking into his eyes with absolute confidence.

"Daniel, you have spent the last year protecting me and building an ironclad wall around this family," she said.

"The security cameras are active, the staff is loyal, and I am not the same vulnerable woman I was a year ago."

"You need to go to London. This is your legacy, and I refuse to let my past trauma hold your career back."

Daniel looked at her, searching her face for any hidden anxiety, but he found only genuine, unyielding strength.

He took a deep breath, nodding slowly as he realized she was entirely correct; she was fully capable.

"Alright," he agreed, pulling her onto his lap. "But I will be calling you every single morning and night."

"And the security team will have extra patrols around the perimeter while I am gone, just for my peace of mind."

"Deal," Emily laughed, kissing him gently, feeling a immense sense of pride in how far they had both come.

The day of his departure arrived, and Emily waved goodbye as his car pulled out of the snowy driveway toward the airport.

She walked back into the house, locking the door behind her, ready to face the week with a sense of complete independence.

She was the guardian of her home now, and she felt entirely ready for the responsibility.
