Chapter 15 - UNBREAKABLE

-15-
Five years had passed since the winter storm that changed our lives forever.
The courtroom trials were a distant memory, reduced to old newspaper clippings filed away in federal archives. My parents remained in quiet seclusion in Westchester, while Richard Sterling and Lauren Vance served out their lengthy federal sentences behind the gray walls of upstate correctional facilities, entirely forgotten by the high-society world they had desperately tried to conquer through deceit and cruelty.
Our world, by contrast, had expanded into something beautiful, radiant, and unbreakable.
Purely Petals had grown into a nationwide leader in organic family wellness, employing dozens of dedicated staff members and funding community healthcare initiatives across New York.
And our family had grown, too.
It was a warm Saturday afternoon in late spring. The sun was shining brilliantly over the rolling green lawns of our newly purchased home in the Hudson Valley—a sprawling, sunlit farmhouse surrounded by apple orchards and wide open spaces where children could run free without fear or restriction.
Emma, now six years old, with bright eyes and a fierce, independent spirit, was currently teaching her four-year-old little brother, Noah, how to build a fortress out of wooden blocks on the expansive wooden deck.
I sat on the porch swing, sipping iced tea, while James walked up the stone pathway carrying a basket of freshly picked apples from our orchard.
He walked up the porch steps, sat down beside me on the swing, and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close. His hair was sprinkled with a few distinguished touches of silver at the temples, but his posture was just as straight, strong, and commanding as the day I met him.
"Inspection complete," James reported with a warm, teasing smile, nodding toward the deck where Noah and Emma were loudly debating the structural integrity of their block tower. "The chief engineers report that the fortress is entirely earthquake-proof and monster-resistant."
I laughed, resting my head against his shoulder as the spring breeze rustled through the apple trees around us.
"Good," I murmured, watching our children laugh and play under the bright, endless sky. "Because nothing is ever going to breach these walls again."
James kissed the top of my head, tightening his embrace as we watched the sun begin its slow, golden descent across the horizon.

We had survived the worst that betrayal, greed, and cruelty could throw at us. We had walked through the fire and emerged stronger, fiercer, and more united than ever before.
Our roots were deep. Our foundation was absolute. And our story—grounded in truth, courage, and unconditional love—was truly unbreakable.
