Chapter 8 - The Encounter in the Park

The woman, Clara, was sitting on a park bench, her hands trembling as she held a small photograph of her grandmother.

She looked up as Evelyn approached, her eyes searching for any sign of betrayal or malice.

But all she saw in Evelyn was a kindred spirit, a woman who had suffered the same kind of cold, calculating cruelty.

"Are you sure about this?" Clara asked, her voice barely a whisper.

"Everything is ready," Evelyn said, sitting down beside her.

"The lawsuit is filed, the evidence is public, and the lawyers are ready to fight."

Clara looked at the document in her hand, the one that would return her family's fortune.

"I don't even know how to thank you," she said, her eyes filling with tears.

"Don't thank me," Evelyn replied, watching the ducks swim in the nearby pond.

"I didn't do this for you, and I didn't do it for me."

"I did it because it was the only way to make the world right again."

"They thought they were gods," she continued, her voice gaining strength.

"They thought they could build their happiness on the broken dreams of others."

"But everyone has a limit, and they finally pushed me to mine."

Clara wiped her eyes, her posture straightening as she looked toward the city skyline.

"They're going to lose, aren't they?"

"They’ve already lost," Evelyn said.

"They just don't know it yet."

They sat in silence for a while, the peace of the park contrasting with the chaos that was currently unfolding in the Sterling estate.

It was a quiet moment of victory, a small, private celebration of the work they had done.

Evelyn felt a strange sense of closure, as if the last piece of her old life had been put to rest.

She stood up, knowing that her presence here might attract attention, and she wasn't ready for that just yet.

"I have to go," she said, offering her hand to Clara.

Clara shook it, her grip firm and grateful.

"You're a hero, you know that?"

Evelyn shook her head, a sad smile touching her lips.

"No, I'm just a woman who decided she was tired of being stepped on."

And with that, she walked away, leaving Clara to start the next chapter of her life.
