Chapter 17 - THE DIVISION OF RUINS

The final legal settlement was signed on Wednesday afternoon in Richard’s downtown Boston law office.

Every single bank account,

property deed,

and corporate asset was officially transferred back into my name and the Sterling family trust.

Daniel’s signature appeared on the divorce papers,

scrawled in shaky,

defeated handwriting from his holding cell.

Victoria’s signature was missing,

replaced by a federal court order defaulting her assets to complete forfeiture.

“It’s over,

” Richard announced,

stamping the final document with a satisfying thud.

“You are officially single,

fully restored,

and financially bulletproof.

I picked up my fountain pen,

placed the cap back on with a crisp click,

and smiled.

“Thank you,

Richard,

” I said warmly.

“For your brilliance,

your speed,

and your unwavering support.

“Family takes care of family,

especially when the wolves try to break down the door,

” Richard replied with a smile.

That evening,

Arthur hosted a quiet celebratory dinner in the mansion’s formal dining room.

No rosemary chicken.

No tension.

Just fine wine,

excellent food,

and genuine laughter among people who valued loyalty over greed.

“To new beginnings,

” Arthur raised his crystal glass,

catching the candlelight.

“To rebuilding what was broken,

and sweeping away the rot forever,

” I added,

clinking my glass against his.

Chloe and Marcus smiled brightly,

raising their glasses in unison.

“And to never,

ever underestimating a woman who knows how to use an architectural blueprint,

” Chloe laughed.

We all drank deeply,

celebrating the reclamation of our lives.

The nightmare was officially over.

May you like

The foundation had been cleared.

And the future was wide open.
