Chapter 16 - CELESTE’S BETRAYAL

In a holding cell across town, Celeste Bain sat staring at the concrete wall, realizing the full extent of the trap she had walked into.

When Adrian’s defense team filed their preliminary motions, they didn't just try to shift blame—they attached every single internal email, digital message, and luxury expense receipt proving that Celeste had actively orchestrated the fraudulent invoice scheme to pad her own salary while encouraging Adrian’s reckless corporate maneuvers.

Desperate to save herself, Celeste requested an emergency meeting with federal prosecutors, hoping to secure a plea deal by turning state’s witness against her former boss.

She claimed she was merely an employee following executive orders.

She claimed Adrian had coerced her into manipulating the financial records.

Unfortunately for Celeste, Margaret Sloan’s forensic audit team had anticipated every possible excuse.

Every email thread where Celeste mocked Adrian’s wife, every message where she plotted to push out the old guard, and every digital signature authorizing fraudulent wire transfers was meticulously timestamped and cataloged.

When Celeste’s court-appointed attorney reviewed the prosecution’s evidence package, he simply shook his head and advised her to plead guilty.

There was no escape.

The communications director who had pranced through the lobby of the Vale Harbor Hotel thinking she was playing the role of a corporate queen now discovered that arrogance is a very expensive luxury.

By the time her arraignment hearing concluded, Celeste’s pristine professional reputation was in absolute ruins.

No PR firm in the country would ever touch her again.
