Part 78
As the summer transitioned once more into the cool,
golden tones of autumn,
our son celebrated his second birthday.
He was no longer a baby;
he had grown into a strong,
independent toddler with a vocabulary that surprised us both every single day.
To celebrate,
I spent several weeks in my workshop,

building him a massive,
custom wooden playground nestled under the shade of the ancient olive trees.
I carved the swings,
the climbing walls,
and the long slide by hand,
ensuring every surface was perfectly smooth and safe for his small hands.
On the morning of his birthday,
we led him out to the grove,
his eyes widening into huge circles of pure,
unadulterated amazement when he saw the structure.
He let out a loud,
joyful shriek,
running forward with his small legs pumping,
the dog trotting right beside him to ensure his safety.
Khloe and I stood back,
watching him scramble up the wooden steps with absolute confidence,
his laughter filling the quiet grove with a beautiful melody.
"You built him a kingdom within our kingdom,"
Khloe noted,
her arm wrapping around my waist,
her face resting against my shoulder with a deep contentment.
"He deserves nothing less,"
I replied,
watching him slide down the wooden ramp,
landing safely in a pile of soft clover at the bottom.
The puppy,
now a majestic,
full-grown guardian,
immediately nudged him with its wet nose,
making him laugh even harder as he rolled in the grass.

We spent the entire afternoon in the grove,
playing on the swings,
eating fresh fruit,
and celebrating the simple fact of our beautiful,
uninterrupted existence.
There were no outside guests,
no frantic birthday parties filled with social obligations,
just the three of us and our loyal animal friend.
We didn't need the validation of a society we had rejected;
our own love was more than enough to create a perfect universe for our child.
As the golden afternoon light filtered through the silver-green leaves of the olive trees,
I looked at my family and felt a profound sense of completeness.
The systems of the old world were still grinding away,
destroying lives in their endless pursuit of power and control,
but their reach ended at the border of our valley.
We had created an alternative reality,
a sanctuary of pure liberty,
where our son could grow up wild,
May you like
free,
and completely untamed by the chains of the old society.
