Chapter 41

As Harrison finished his speech to a resounding round of applause,

federal agents were already moving into the city center high-rise.

They entered the luxurious boardroom where Charles and Sterling were waiting for news of the explosion,

expecting to see smoke rising from the horizon.

Instead,

the heavy oak doors were thrown open,

and a dozen armed federal officers poured into the room,

their badges gleaming in the corporate lights.

"Charles,

Sterling,"

the lead agent announced,

unfolding a set of official documents.

"You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit domestic terrorism,

attempted murder,

and corporate corruption."

Sterling collapsed into his leather chair,

his face completely devoid of color,

realizing his life of luxury and power was over.

Charles tried to bluster,

claiming political immunity and threatening the officers with his influence,

but his words fell on deaf ears.

They were handcuffed and marched through the glass lobby of their own building,

exposed to the flashing cameras of the reporters Elena had tipped off.

The news of the arrested elites sent shockwaves through the entire state,

shattering the last remnants of the corrupt political machine.

The following Monday,

Harrison walked into the federal prosecutor's office,

where Elena was assisting with the finalization of the charges.

The evidence against the conspirators was absolute,

including the audio recordings,

the captured operative's testimony,

and financial records linking the bomb materials to Sterling's companies.

"They are going away for a very long time,

Harrison,"

Elena said,

closing a thick legal folder with a satisfying thud.

"There is no loophole big enough for them to crawl out of this time."

"You did an incredible job,

Elena,"

Harrison said,

walking over to stand beside her at the window.

"You fought them with the law,

and you won a victory that no weapon could ever achieve."

Elena looked up at him,

her eyes shining with a deep affection and relief.

"We won it together,

Harrison,"

she reminded him gently,

placing her hand in his.

"Your courage gave us the chance to use the law effectively."

Marcus entered the office,

holding a newspaper with a massive headline declaring the total cleanup of the city's political system.

"The governor just called,"

Marcus announced,

a broad smile on his face.

"He wants to personally endorse your candidacy for the state senate in tomorrow's public address."

"The election is next week,"

Harrison noted,

looking out at the peaceful city below.

"And the path is finally clear,"

Marcus added,

tapping him on the shoulder with respect.

Harrison felt a deep sense of accomplishment,

knowing that they had not just protected their family,

but had completely transformed the destiny of the entire region.

The shadows of corruption were being systematically dismantled,

May you like

replaced by a transparent,

just system that valued human life above corporate profit.
