Chapter 14 - The Depths of the Deception

As the divorce proceedings advanced,

Arthur Vance uncovered the true extent of the Harrison family's financial corruption.

They hadn't just been struggling;

they had been actively committing fraud to keep their estate afloat.

Richard Harrison had forged signatures on several corporate documents to secure secondary loans using my father’s name as a reference without permission.

Arthur brought the forensic audit results to my condo one evening,

laying out the evidence on my dining table.

"This goes beyond civil court,

Maya,"

Arthur explained,

pointing to a series of bank transfers.

"This is federal bank fraud."

"If your father presses charges,

Richard Harrison is looking at significant prison time."

I looked at the documents,

feeling a cold chill run down my spine at the depth of their desperation.

They had planned to use the marriage to merge our finances so thoroughly that their fraud would be covered up by my inheritance.

"Press the charges,"

I said,

my voice firm and resolute.

"They didn't show me mercy,

and I won't show them any."

"Your father has already signed the affidavit,"

Arthur smiled,

pleased with my decisiveness.

"The FBI will be executing a warrant at the Oak Park house by tomorrow morning."

The final domino was about to fall,

May you like

and the Harrisons would have no one to blame but themselves.

They had chosen a fight with a woman who had the resources and the will to see it through to the absolute end.
