Chapter 4

The bright,

warm morning sun filtered through the massive,

floor-to-ceiling windows of Blake's luxurious penthouse bedroom.

I woke up slowly,

wrapped securely in the softest,

most expensive silk sheets I had ever felt.

My body was completely rested,

no longer shivering from the icy trauma of the previous afternoon.

Blake was already awake,

sitting quietly in a plush velvet armchair by the window,

reading a digital tablet.

He looked up when he heard me stir,

a brilliant,

breathtaking smile spreading across his handsome face.

"Good morning,

my beautiful wife,"

he murmured,

setting the tablet down and walking over to the edge of our massive bed.

He carried a silver tray holding fresh coffee,

warm pastries,

and a small,

elegant crystal vase with a single red rose.

"Good morning,"

I replied,

sitting up and accepting the fragrant,

steaming cup of coffee with a grateful sigh.

"How is the world outside dealing with yesterday's explosive drama,"

I asked cautiously,

taking a careful sip of the perfect,

rich brew.

Blake chuckled darkly,

picking up his tablet again and passing it over to me.

"Take a look for yourself,

darling,"

he offered,

watching my reaction with intense,

amused eyes.

The top news headline across every single financial blog in Miami was bold,

ruthless,

and entirely focused on my father's absolute ruin.

'Vance Shipping Empire Collapses Overnight,'

the bold text read,

accompanied by a blurry,

humiliating photo of my father being escorted out of the plaza.

Another headline detailed Julian's sudden,

scandalous arrest for extensive wire fraud,

leaving Penelope publicly disgraced and completely broke.

The high society that had so eagerly applauded my painful humiliation,

was now ruthlessly mocking my family's spectacular downfall.

"You completely destroyed them,"

I whispered,

scrolling through article after article of undeniable,

catastrophic financial destruction.

"I merely exposed the fragile,

rotten foundation they were already standing on,"

Blake corrected me softly,

brushing a stray strand of hair behind my ear.

"They destroyed themselves,

I just accelerated the inevitable conclusion."

I set the tablet down,

feeling a sudden,

overwhelming weight completely lift off my weary shoulders.

I had spent my entire life trying to earn their impossible,

conditional love,

only to be constantly belittled,

ignored,

and ultimately discarded.

Now,

I was sitting in a billionaire's pristine penthouse,

married to a man who would gladly burn the world down to keep me warm.

"Thank you,"

I said softly,

looking deeply into his eyes,

feeling a profound,

endless wave of gratitude.

Blake leaned in closer,

May you like

capturing my lips in a slow,

passionate kiss that tasted like sweet coffee and absolute victory.
