Chapter 6 - THE SILENT WITNESSES OF THE FORENSIC AUDIT

The forensic audit report was a masterpiece of legal and financial precision,
detailing every transaction with absolute clarity.
As I held the pages open,
the names of several offshore bank accounts were revealed,
each one linked directly to Grant’s personal email.
"These accounts,"
I said,
pointing to the list of wire transfers,
"were opened in the Cayman Islands and Switzerland."
"They were used to purchase a luxury penthouse in Manhattan,"
I continued,
reading the details of the real estate transactions.
"A penthouse that is currently registered under the name of Celeste Hart."
The crowd watched in stunned silence as the picture of Grant's double life was painted in vivid,
unforgivable detail.
He had not just fallen in love with another woman,
he had actively plundered my family's wealth to fund her existence.
"He used the money meant for our children’s college trusts,"
I said,
my voice dropping to a lower,
more dangerous register.
"He depleted the fund my mother set aside for Sophie and Noah’s future."
"And he did it all while pretending to be a devoted father and CEO,"
I added,
looking at the board members.
Richard Sterling took the folder from my hands,
his eyes scanning the certified bank statements with a look of deep disgust.
"Grant,"
Richard said,
his voice cold and final,
"is this true?"
Grant opened his mouth to lie,
to spin another web of excuses,
but the evidence was too overwhelming.
"Richard,
I can explain,"
he stammered,
his polished demeanor completely gone,
replaced by the panic of a trapped animal.
"It was a temporary loan,
I was going to replace the funds before the audit!"
he claimed,
his voice rising in panic.
"An unauthorized loan of four million dollars is not a loan,
Grant,"
Richard said,
his voice cutting him off with administrative authority.
"It is embezzlement,
and it is a federal crime."
The word 'embezzlement' seemed to echo through the grand ballroom,
shattering any remaining illusion of Grant's power.
Celeste took a step back,
trying to distance herself from him,
as if she could escape the fallout of his collapse.
But she was wearing the stolen emeralds,
and her name was on every document in the folder.
She was as guilty as he was,
and everyone in the room knew it.
I watched her look around the room,
searching for a friendly face,
but she found only cold,
condemning stares from the people she had tried to impress.
The high society of Westchester had no room for a thief,
especially one who had stolen from a beloved family like the Beaumonts.
They had tolerated the affair,
as they often did,
with quiet whispers and polite smiles.
But they would not tolerate the theft of charity funds,
nor would they tolerate the humiliation of innocent children.

The tide had completely turned,
and the currents of power were pulling Grant and Celeste under.
