Chapter 7 - THE BREAKING OF THE GREY SEALED ENVELOPE

The grey folder contained more than just financial records,

it held the key to the very roof over Grant’s head.

I reached into the pocket of my gown and pulled out a single,

notarized document,

its official gold seal catching the light.

"This house,"

I said,

looking up at the towering ceiling of Alder House,

"has belonged to the Beaumont family for over a century."

"When my mother passed away,

she left the property to me,

held within the family trust,"

I explained to the listening crowd.

"Grant has no ownership stake in this estate,

nor does he have any right to reside here."

I looked at my husband,

whose eyes were wide with a new,

even deeper terror.

"According to the terms of our prenuptial agreement,"

I continued,

reading the clause that he had signed fifteen years ago,

"any act of financial infidelity or fraud immediately voids all marital property claims."

"You are not a co-owner of this house,

Grant,"

I said,

my voice carrying the weight of absolute legal finality.

"And you are no longer welcome under this roof."

I turned to the two security guards standing near the ballroom entrance,

who had been waiting for my signal.

"Please escort Mr.

and Ms.

Hart off the premises immediately,"

I instructed them,

my voice calm and unwavering.

A collective gasp rose from the crowd once more,

the guests watching in absolute awe as the drama reached its climax.

Grant’s face turned from red to a ghostly,

ashy white,

his hands clenching into fists at his sides.

"You can't do this,

Evelyn!"

he yelled,

his voice echoing off the walls as the guards stepped forward.

"This is my home!

I have lived here for fifteen years!"

he screamed,

losing all sense of dignity.

"It was never your home,

Grant,"

I replied,

my voice cool and steady.

"It was a privilege you failed to earn,

and a sanctuary you dared to desecrate."

Celeste looked at the approaching guards,

her eyes wild with panic as she realized her dream of living in Alder House was over.

"Grant,

do something!"

she shrieked,

her voice losing all its sweet,

melodious quality,

becoming high and grating.

"Tell them they can't touch us!

Tell them who you are!"

she demanded,

clutching his arm in desperation.

But Grant could do nothing,

his power stripped away by the very laws he had tried to bypass.

He was no longer the CEO,

no longer the master of the house,

and no longer a respected member of society.

He was just a man caught in his own web of lies,

May you like

standing beneath a stolen portrait,

waiting to be cast out.
