Chapter 11 - THE EVICTION OF THE PARASITES

I looked down at him,
feeling no pity,
no anger,
and no regret.
There was only a deep,
profound sense of relief,
as if a heavy weight had finally been lifted from my shoulders.
"There is nothing left to talk about,
Grant."
I stepped back,
joining my attorneys at the table.
"The security team is waiting downstairs.
They have already cleared your personal belongings from the office.
And they are here to escort you off this property."
"This is my home!"
he yelled,
his voice cracking as he tried to stand up.
"I have lived here for five years!"
"The deed is in my mother's trust,"
Arthur Bell reminded him,
his voice cold and final.
"And under the terms of the trust,
you have no legal right of occupancy.
You are a trespasser,
Mister Whitmore."
The elevator doors opened once more,
and three large,
uniformed security guards stepped out into the room.
They did not say a word,
but their presence was enough to silence any remaining protest.
Sienna did not wait for them to touch her.
She grabbed her purse from the floor,
avoiding my gaze,
and ran into the elevator,
her camel coat flying behind her.
Grant stood still for a long moment,
looking at me,
his eyes filled with a mixture of hatred and desperation.
"You will regret this,
Evelyn,"
he hissed.
"I will take everything you have left."
"You are welcome to try,
Grant,"
I said,
my voice steady and calm.
"But as of tonight,
you have nothing."
The security guards stepped forward,
gently but firmly taking Grant by the arms and guiding him into the elevator.
The doors slid shut,
cutting off his final,
bitter curse,
May you like
and leaving the room in a beautiful,
blessed silence.
