Chapter 20 - A NEW HORIZON

One month later,

the crisp autumn air of Zurich welcomed me as my private black sedan pulled up beneath the grand neoclassical facade of the University Hospital.

I stepped out onto the pristine marble steps,

wearing a sharp tailored charcoal coat and carrying my leather briefcase.

The Swiss Alps rose majestically in the background,

their snow-capped peaks piercing the brilliant cobalt sky.

I had accepted the prestigious position of Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Zurich’s premier medical institute.

As I walked through the grand double doors,

the hospital staff parted respectfully,

bowing their heads in silent acknowledgment of my reputation.

My office on the top floor offered a breathtaking panoramic view of the sparkling city below and the tranquil lake stretching toward the horizon.

My surgical schedule for the coming week was already packed with groundbreaking aortic reconstructions and international consultations.

I walked over to my large mahogany desk,

placing my heavy stainless steel stethoscope neatly beside a framed medical journal featuring my latest surgical breakthrough.

My phone buzzed gently on the desk,

displaying a polite text message from Richard Sterling wishing me continued success in my new home.

I replied with a brief,

warm note of thanks,

maintaining a respectful and cordial bond with the man whose life I had saved.

Cecily and Preston were distant echoes of a past life,

faded memories of a storm I had weathered with absolute grace and unyielding strength.

I walked over to the expansive floor-to-ceiling window,

looking out over the vibrant city that was now my kingdom.

I raised a cup of freshly brewed espresso in a silent toast to the unpredictable journey that had brought me here.

I had lost a fiancé,

but I had found my true,

unbreakable power.

My hands were my own,

my destiny was my own,

and the world was waiting at my feet.

The scalpel was in my grip,

and the future was brighter than ever.
