Chapter 13 - The Siege of the Estate"Victor! Secure the upper east wing!" Marcus commanded, his voice echoing through the command center. "Get Lily down into the reinforced panic bunker beneath the wine cellar. Now!"

"Boss, they're breaching the main foyer!" Victor shouted over the comms, the sound of automatic gunfire crackling heavily in the background.
"Move!" Marcus ordered.
I didn't hesitate. I grabbed my sidearm—a Glock 19 Marcus had insisted I carry—and bolted toward the residential hallway. But before I reached the stairs, a heavy glass door shattered nearby. Two tactical operatives clad in black combat gear dropped down from the second-floor balcony, their assault rifles leveled directly at my chest.
"Target spotted! Federal agents! Freeze!" one of them shouted.
I dove behind a heavy marble pillar just as a hail of bullets chewed into the stone, sending white dust and sharp marble shards flying into the air.
Think, Miller. Think like an investigator.
I pulled a flashbang grenade from my tactical belt, pulled the pin with my teeth, and tossed it blindly around the edge of the pillar.
BOOM.

A blinding white flash and a deafening shockwave reverberated through the hallway, accompanied by the muffled screams of the tactical agents as their night-vision visors short-circuited.
I vaulted out from behind the pillar, raised my Glock, and fired two precise shots, neutralizing both operatives before they could recover.
