Chapter 23 - MY MARRIAGE Weston asked after six months:

“Do you think you’ll ever trust me again?”

I answered:

“I trust you with some things.”

He looked hurt.

“That’s not what I mean.”

“I know.”

He wanted a single status.

Trusted.

Untrusted.

Marriage does not work that way after concealment.

I trusted him to show up for Cecily.

He did.

I trusted him to follow the no-Harlan-contact rule.

He did.

I trusted him to tell the therapist ugly things.

He did.

I did not trust him yet to choose me over his father’s judgment when pressure came.

That took longer.
