Chapter 16 – Unbroken Ground

The drive back to the estate that night was peaceful, the city lights giving way to the winding, tree-lined roads of the valley. Aria was fast asleep in the back seat, clutching her watercolor brochure against her chest like a prize.
As the car passed through the open iron gates of the estate, Ethan noticed the warm glow spilling from every window of the main house. The property bore no resemblance to the cold, oppressive mansion Arthur Carter had once used to intimidate his family.

Ethan took a slow sip of the tea, watching the distant headlights of traffic on the highway miles away.
"Sometimes," Ethan admitted quietly. "Not with anger anymore. Just with the understanding that they chose their cage long before the prison doors closed. We chose a different path."
Olivia smiled, interlacing her fingers with his.

Beneath the clear expanse of stars, the house stood firm on its hill—a sanctuary born from survival, guarded by truth, and filled with a warmth that would never fade.
