Chapter 22 – The Full Circle

Five years later, the estate’s grand lawn was once again filled with the vibrant energy of youth.
Aria, now managing principal of the Carter & Vance Advocacy Clinic, walked down the stone stairs holding the hand of her four-year-old son, Leo. He wore miniature canvas sneakers and a bright blue baseball cap, chattering excitedly as he pointed toward the garden terrace where a tiny white easel was set up in the afternoon sun.
Ethan—now seventy, with laugh lines deeply etched around his steady hazel eyes—crouched on the grass with a catcher's mitt on his left hand.
"Alright, Leo," Ethan called out with a warm, booming laugh. "Show your grandfather that pitch you’ve been practicing all week."
Leo wound up with dramatic flair, his tongue poking out in intense concentration, before tossing a soft tennis ball in a clean arc. Ethan caught it with a hollow, satisfying pop of the leather, letting out a cheer that echoed against the limestone balustrades.
Behind them, sitting on the sunlit veranda, Olivia watched with a cup of herbal tea in her hands, her silver hair catching the golden warmth of the afternoon.
She looked down at the entrance hall through the open French doors.
The old staircase stood tall and magnificent, draped in afternoon sun. The dark memory of a scream, a fall, and a dropped phone had long since been washed away by twenty-five years of music, shared meals, family celebrations, and an empire transformed into a sanctuary for thousands who had once been defenseless.
Ethan tossed the ball back to little Leo, then looked up toward the veranda, catching Olivia’s gaze.

The battle had ended decades ago, but the victory lived on every single day—in the laughter on the grass, the open gates that never turned anyone away, and the unshakeable foundation of a home built entirely on love.
