Part 4

By noon, the first phase of Alexander's plan was already in motion.

My apartment felt like a command center.

Two private security guards stood outside my building, ensuring no one could get close to us.

Inside, Alexander was reviewing documents sent over by his legal team.

"Look at this, Elena," he said, gesturing for me to look at his screen.

He pointed to a series of financial statements belonging to Carmen's primary business.

"She owes over three million dollars to her suppliers," he explained.

"She was using the wedding as a distraction to cover up her impending bankruptcy."

"Sofia's condo is completely paid off, and its market value has tripled since I bought it."

"Carmen was planning to use that property as collateral to secure a emergency loan from the bank."

The pieces of the puzzle were finally falling into place.

The sudden rush for the wedding.

The constant questions about Sofia's assets.

The brutal ambush in the hotel room.

It wasn't just greed; it was absolute desperation.

"They thought Sofia would be an easy target," I said, tears of anger rising in my eyes.

"They thought she would be too ashamed and too terrified to tell anyone."

"They didn't count on her coming to you," Alexander said, his eyes turning cold.

"And they certainly didn't count on me finding out."

He clicked on a new file sent by his investigator.

It contained security footage from the luxury hotel where the wedding reception had taken place.

The video showed the hallway outside the bridal suite.

At 1:15 AM, Javier was seen leaving the room.

A minute later, Carmen walked down the hall, accompanied by three older women.

They unlocked the door and went inside.

Exactly forty-five minutes later, the door opened again.

Sofia ran out, her wedding dress torn, clutching her face as she hurried toward the elevator.

Carmen and Javier stood in the hallway, watching her run away without a single shred of remorse.

"We have the physical evidence, the medical report, and now the video footage," I said. "Why aren't we going to the police right now?"

Alexander looked at me, his expression grim.

"Because a simple arrest is too easy for them, Elena."

"If we call the police now, Carmen's high-priced lawyers will have her out on bail in two hours."

"She will use her connections to delay the trial for years."

"I don't want her in a courtroom yet."

"I want her on her knees, begging for mercy, watching everything she loves turn to ash first."
