Chapter 13 - The Poisoned Legacy

"You sacrificed your own daughter for revenge!" Julian growled, stepping beside Eleanor. "You framed her! You almost got her killed!"
"A necessary sacrifice for the greater good," Victoria sneered, her eyes flashing with a cold, terrifying insanity. "Look at her! She became stronger, didn't she? She’s no longer the fragile socialite you kept locked in your gilded cage, Julian. She fought back. She survived. I made her into a Sterling slayer."
"You made me into a orphan," Eleanor spat, her thumb pulling back the hammer of her pistol. "And tonight, the legacy ends."
Suddenly, the glass ceiling above the atrium shattered into thousands of deadly fragments. Heavy tactical ropes dropped down as four heavily armed mercenaries rappelled into the room, flashbang grenades detonating in a blinding flash of white light and deafening noise.
Julian tackled Eleanor behind a heavy stone display case as bullets tore through the atrium. The deafening roar of automatic gunfire filled the air. Marcus’s team engaged the mercenaries in a fierce, chaotic fire-fight.
Through the smoke, Eleanor saw Victoria running toward a hidden reinforced panic room at the back of the atrium.

"Julian! Hold them off!" Eleanor shouted.
She leaped over the stone barrier, ignoring the stray bullets biting into the plaster around her, and sprinted after her mother.
