Chapter 7 - The Reckoning at the Docks

Chaos descended upon the penthouse. Julian pulled Eleanor behind a marble pillar as gunfire ripped through the boardroom. Marcus laid down suppressive fire, driving Thomas’s remaining mercenaries back toward the private elevator.

"He’s running!" Eleanor yelled over the deafening roar of gunshots, pointing toward Thomas, who was sprinting down the private emergency stairwell with a metallic briefcase clutched to his chest.

"That briefcase holds the encrypted keys to the family trust," Julian said, checking his magazine. "If he reaches the helipad, he escapes to international waters."

Julian and Eleanor gave chase, sprinting down the concrete stairs as siren alarms blared throughout the skyscraper. Their boots echoed off the walls, a rhythmic cadence of two people who had once been enemies, now united by survival and blood.

They reached the roof just as the blades of a massive black helicopter began to chop through the heavy rain. Thomas stood on the wet helipad, his coat whipping in the gale-force wind, two armed mercenaries standing between him and the couple.

"It’s over, Thomas!" Julian yelled, stepping out into the storm. "The police are already surrounding the perimeter downstairs! You have nowhere to go!"

Thomas turned, his face contorted in a terrifying mix of rage and desperation. "It’s never over, Julian! This empire was meant for me! Father loved you because you were weak, just like your pathetic wife!"

Thomas pulled a remote detonator from his pocket. "If I can’t have Sterling Global, nobody will."

Eleanor’s eyes widened. "The safe house... Leo!"
