Chapter 3 – The Woman Security Escorted Away
Grant had barely finished his speech when two hospital security officers entered the ballroom.
Guests turned.
Conversations stopped.
The officers walked directly toward Ava.
"Ms. Carlisle?"
She smiled politely.
"Yes?"
"We need you to come with us."
Her smile faded.
"There must be some mistake."
One officer handed her a printed notice.
"Your guest authorization has been revoked."
Grant stepped forward.
"I invited her."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Mercer."
The senior officer remained professional.
"The authorization came from the hospital's executive legal office."
Ava's confidence cracked.
"This is ridiculous."
Several reporters quietly lifted their cameras.
"I'm staying."
"I'm afraid you are not."
Grant frowned.
"Who authorized this?"
Just then, Nolan Brooks entered the ballroom carrying a leather briefcase.
He walked calmly across the marble floor until he stood directly in front of Grant.
"Emma Mercer."
Grant stared.
"What?"
Nolan handed him an envelope.
"Your wife has exercised her legal rights."
Grant opened it.
His face slowly lost its color.
Medical authority revoked.
Emergency proxy transferred.
Separate trust protected.
Restricted access order effective immediately.
"What is this?"
Nolan answered quietly.
"This is the consequence of being unavailable."
Meanwhile, security gently escorted Ava toward the exit.
Every guest watched.

Every camera followed.
The woman who believed she had already replaced Emma left the ballroom without saying another word.
