Chapter 5 – Six Months Later

Snow covered the streets of Chicago.

Emma stood beside a large window, holding her healthy baby daughter.

Little Grace slept peacefully against her shoulder.

Nolan entered carrying another folder.

"The divorce is finalized."

Emma nodded.

"And the company?"

"You kept your separate trust."

"The board removed Grant as CEO after investors learned about the affair and the resulting scandal."

Emma looked outside.

"And Ava?"

"She resigned months ago."

Emma simply smiled.

She no longer cared.

A quiet knock came at the door.

Grant stood outside.

Older.

Tired.

No cameras.

No tuxedo.

No audience.

Only regret.

Emma opened the door just enough to hear him.

"I know I don't deserve forgiveness."

She remained silent.

"I just wanted to see my daughter."

Emma looked down at Grace.

Then back at him.

"She'll know who her father is."

Grant looked hopeful.

"But she'll also know that the night she was born..."

"...the people who truly stood beside her mother."

Nurse Linda passed by the hallway carrying flowers.

Dr. Monroe waved from the nurses' station.

Both smiled at Grace.

Emma gently closed the door.

Not in anger.

Not in revenge.

Simply because that chapter of her life had ended.

She kissed her daughter's forehead.

"You'll never have to wonder whether you were someone's priority."

Outside, Grant remained standing in the silent hallway.

Inside, Emma rocked her daughter in the morning sunlight.

One had finally learned that success means nothing without the people you choose to love.

May you like

The other already had everything she needed.

The End.
