Part 10

Three weeks passed by in a flash.
The news of the broken engagement was splashed across every major media outlet in the city.
Veronica's family business was struggling heavily after Ethan pulled all of his corporate investments.
But inside the high-rise penthouse, none of that public drama mattered at all.
The entire atmosphere of the space had completely changed.
It was no longer just a cold museum for an arrogant, lonely billionaire.
It was finally a real home.
There were colorful toys scattered on the expensive living room carpet.
There was soft, cheerful music playing in the evenings.
One rainy evening, Ethan came home early from his office.
He didn't go straight to his private study to work like he used to do for years.
Instead, he walked directly into the living room.
Lily was sitting on the floor, happily playing a game with her perfectly repaired yellow rabbit.
The moment her eyes landed on him, she stood up and ran across the room as fast as her small legs could carry her.
"Ethan!" she cheered happily.
She didn't call him Mr. Mercer anymore.
Ethan laughed out loud, a sound he hadn't made in years, picking her up and spinning her around in the air.
Rosa walked out of the kitchen, wiping her hands on an apron and wearing a warm, beautiful smile.
She looked radiant without the heavy weight of fear and worry on her shoulders.
"Dinner is ready," Rosa said softly, looking at the two of them.
Ethan looked back at her, his heart feeling fuller than it ever had in his entire life.
He suddenly realized something important.
He didn't just save them from Veronica's cruelty.
They had saved him from a cold, lonely existence.
Veronica had once said that dirty people shouldn't live near important people.
But Ethan finally understood the absolute truth of the world.
The only dirty thing in his life had been the cruel arrogance of the wealthy.
And the most important people in his entire world were standing right in front of him.
He looked at Rosa, his smile warm and full of unspoken promises.

"Let's eat," he said gently.
And for the very first time in his life, Ethan felt truly, completely happy.
