Chapter 4 - The Rise of the Wolf

Three years passed in a blur of endless work and climbing profits.

Clara Miller was no longer an assistant,

she was one of the top portfolio managers at Sterling Capital.

She was known as the Ice Queen,

unflappable,

brilliant,

and merciless in negotiations.

She had turned a small investment into a multi-million dollar fund,

earning the respect of everyone on Wall Street.

Her wealth grew quietly,

invested smartly in offshore accounts and real estate.

She moved into a penthouse overlooking the city skyline.

Despite her success,

she lived minimally,

always focused on the end goal.

She had kept tabs on the Miller family through private investigators.

The reports were exactly what she had predicted.

Leo had run his logistics company into the ground within the first year.

He had spent the family's savings on lavish vacations,

designer clothes,

and disastrous gambling habits.

To keep up appearances,

Richard had taken out a second mortgage on the house.

Eleanor had started selling off her jewelry.

They were bleeding money,

clinging to a sinking ship because of their blind pride.

Clara read the latest report,

sipping a glass of expensive wine.

"They are desperate,"

she whispered,

a cold smile forming on her lips.

The investigator noted that Leo was now seeking high-interest loans from shady lenders.

He needed a massive influx of cash to cover his debts,

or he was going to face severe consequences.

Clara picked up her phone,

dialing a confidential number.

"Set up a shell corporation,

call it Apex Holdings,"

she instructed her lawyer.

"Buy up the Miller family's debt,

all of it,

the mortgages,

the business loans,

everything."

"That is a highly toxic asset profile,

Ms. Miller,"

her lawyer warned.

"Do it,

and make sure they do not know who is behind Apex,"

she commanded,

hanging up.

The trap was set.

She was going to own them,

piece by piece,

until they had nothing left.

The next day at the firm,

Mr. Sterling called her into his office.

"Clara,

I am retiring,"

he announced,

looking at her with pride.

"I want you to take over my position as managing partner."

It was the ultimate victory,

the crown she had worked so hard to attain.

"I accept,"

she said,

shaking his hand.

She was twenty-two years old,

and she ruled the floor.

She looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows,

watching the city below.

The storm was coming for the Millers,

and she was the one bringing the thunder.
