Part 34

Late that night, long after Sofia had retired to her quarters, a sudden, torrential rain began to beat against the heavy glass windows of our master bedroom.
The storm outside was fierce, but inside the vast, dimly lit room, the atmosphere was thick with an intimate warmth, fueled by the glowing embers of the marble fireplace.
I stood by the window, wrapped in a silk emerald robe, watching the rain wash over the dark city of London, feeling a strange, peaceful emptiness inside my chest.
For so long, my mind had been a battlefield, constantly calculating moves, anticipating attacks, and executing counter-strategies to keep us alive and ahead of our rivals.
Now that there were no more enemies left to fight, the sudden stillness was almost overwhelming, a beautiful yet unfamiliar weight that settled deep within my soul.
Suddenly, a pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a broad, solid chest that radiated a comforting, masculine heat.
Alexander buried his face in my hair, inhaling deeply as his hands slid beneath the silk of my robe, his warm palms pressing firmly against the bare skin of my stomach.
"You're thinking too much, Elena," he whispered into my ear, his breath hot and intoxicating against my sensitive skin, causing a soft shiver to run down my spine.
"The war is over, my beautiful queen. You don't have to keep watch in the dark anymore; the kingdom is perfectly secure under our guard."
I turned around within his embrace, resting my hands against his chest, feeling the steady, powerful thudding of his heart beneath his black silk shirt.
"It's just strange," I admitted softly, looking up into his intense, storm-colored eyes. "We've spent so many years fighting just to survive, Alexander."
"Now that we have everything, now that the whole world is at our feet, I find myself wondering what comes next for us."
A low, dark chuckle rumbled in his chest as he leaned down, his lips brushing against my forehead, then my cheek, before settling over mine in a gentle, reassuring kiss.
"What comes next is living, Elena," he murmured against my lips, his eyes burning with a raw, eternal passion that had only grown stronger through our trials.

"We build, we rule, and we love each other without any fear of the shadows. We have earned the right to enjoy the empire we built with our own blood."
He lifted me into his arms, carrying me toward the grand canopy bed, his gaze never breaking from mine as he prepared to show me exactly how sweet our peace could be.
