Chapter 5 - The Hidden Trust Fund

The morning sun broke over the city skyline,
casting a golden glow across the towering glass facade of Henderson Enterprises,
the towering skyscraper looked intimidating to anyone passing by,
but today,
holding the court-ordered asset freeze and ownership transfer papers in my briefcase,
it felt entirely different,
Detective Miller accompanied me through the revolving glass doors,
our footsteps echoing across the polished marble lobby,
the security guards snapped to attention,
recognizing the federal warrants and corporate injunctions we presented at the front desk,
the head of corporate security,
a man named Marcus who had worked under my grandfather decades ago,
stepped out of the elevator,
his eyes widening in absolute shock as he looked at my face,
stuttering in disbelief,
“Eleanor?,
no...
you look so much like her,
you must be Chloe,”
I nodded,
extending my hand,
“Marcus,
it's good to meet you,
my grandmother told me you were one of the few people my father couldn't buy off,”
Marcus's eyes welled with tears,
shaking my hand with a firm, respectful grip,
saying quietly,
“I knew Richard was stealing from this company the day your mother died,
he changed the bylaws,
fired the loyal board members,
and locked down the executive archives,
everyone was too afraid to speak up,
he ruled this place like a tyrant,”
he turned around,
gesturing toward the private elevator,
“Come with me,
there is a secure vault on the top floor that Richard thought only he had the code to,
but your grandfather set up a secondary master override,
and your grandmother gave me the keys years ago in case anything ever happened to her,”
we rode the private elevator up to the penthouse floor,
the doors opening directly into a massive, sunlit executive office overlooking the entire city,
Marcus walked over to the mahogany wood-paneled wall,
pressing a hidden release panel behind a framed portrait of my grandfather,
a heavy steel vault door swung open with a deep, hydraulic hiss,
revealing rows of physical ledgers,
digital hard drives,
and original share certificates,
Marcus pulled out a thick black binder,
placing it gently on the mahogany desk,
saying,
“This is the real financial ledger of Henderson Enterprises,
showing every illegal offshore transfer,
every bribe paid to auditors,
and every penny Richard diverted from your mother's trust fund into his personal accounts with Victoria,”
I opened the binder,
the pages detailing years of methodical theft and deception,
my father had built his entire luxurious lifestyle on a mountain of stolen blood money,
and now,
with every document cataloged and verified,
we had absolute, irrefutable proof,
Marcus looked at me with fierce loyalty,
asking,
“What are your orders,
Ms. Henderson?,
May you like
the board of directors is scheduled for an emergency meeting in one hour,
shall I prepare the room for your arrival?”
