Chapter 7 - The Ally from the Past

The executive boardroom of Henderson Enterprises was dead silent,
the massive mahogany table surrounded by senior board members who looked pale,
confused,
and deeply shaken by the morning's seismic events,
the doors swung open,
and I walked into the room flanked by Marcus and Detective Miller,
wearing a sharp, tailored black blazer that belonged to my mother,
found preserved in the penthouse vault,
I took my seat at the head of the table,
the very seat my grandfather had occupied before his passing,
the oldest board member,
Mr. Vance,
cleared his throat nervously,
stating,
“Excuse me,
young lady,
this is a private meeting of the board of directors of Henderson Enterprises,
where is Richard?,
and who authorized you to sit in that chair?”,
I opened my briefcase,
sliding the original trust documents and court-approved asset transfer injunctions across the polished wood toward him,
stating in a calm, steady voice,
“Richard Henderson is currently in federal custody facing multiple felony indictments for embezzlement,
identity fraud,
and corporate malfeasance,
and I am sitting in this chair because,
pursuant to Article Four of my mother's original incorporation charter and verified by federal court order,
I am the majority shareholder and legal owner of this corporation,”
Mr. Vance's hands shook as he put on his reading glasses,
scanning the legal seals and signatures,
his eyes widening in astonishment as he recognized my grandfather's notary stamp,
whispering,
“Good lord...
it's genuine,
every clause,
every verification...
it's identical to the original charter drafted in nineteen-ninety-five,”
another board member protested loudly,
“This is unprecedented!,
we need time to verify these claims with corporate counsel!”,
suddenly,
the boardroom doors swung open again,
a tall, silver-haired man in an impeccably tailored Italian suit walked in,
carrying a leather briefcase,
pausing at the threshold before speaking with a deep, authoritative voice,
“There is no need for further verification,
gentlemen,
I am Arthur Sterling,
senior partner at Sterling & Vance Corporate Law,
and I was your company's external legal counsel when this trust was established,”
the room went dead silent,
Mr. Vance gasping in recognition,
“Arthur?,
we thought you retired to Switzerland twenty years ago,”
Arthur Sterling walked over to the table,
looking down at me with a warm, respectful nod,
stating firmly,
“I retired from corrupt management,
not from justice,
Margaret Henderson contacted me three months ago,
knowing her health was failing,
she asked me to keep watch over her granddaughter,
waiting for the exact moment Richard's house of cards would collapse,
and that moment has arrived,”
he placed a thick leather binder on the table in front of me,
saying,
“Welcome home,
May you like
Chloe,
let's take back what was always yours.”
