Chapter 10 - Dawn over the Estate

Spring arrived at the Mercer estate,

bringing bright green leaves and blooming flowers to the vast gardens surrounding the grand house.

The morning sun poured through the high arching windows of the kitchen,

filling the room with warm,

golden light.

Mason and Caleb were sitting at the large breakfast island,

laughing loudly as they ate fresh pancakes topped with berries.

Elena stood near the stove,

wearing her comfortable apron,

pouring orange juice into two tall glass cups.

The heavy atmosphere of fear,

suspicion,

and deceit that had once dominated the hallways was completely gone,

replaced by genuine warmth and peaceful energy.

Daniel walked into the kitchen,

dressed in casual clothes rather than his usual formal business suit.

He walked up to his sons,

kissing them both on top of their heads before turning toward Elena.

“Good morning,

Daniel,”

Elena said with a bright,

welcoming smile.

“Good morning,

Elena,”

he replied softly,

looking at her with deep affection and endless gratitude.

He pulled a thick white envelope from his pocket and placed it on the counter beside her.

Elena looked down at the envelope in surprise.

“What is this?”

she asked,

her eyebrows rising slightly.

“Those are the official legal papers for the Clara Mercer Foundation,”

Daniel explained,

his voice filled with deep pride.

“The board approved the structure yesterday afternoon.”

“And why are you giving them to me?”

she asked,

looking back up into his eyes.

“Because you are appointed as the executive director,”

Daniel revealed,

a genuine smile spreading across his face.

“You fought for truth and protected this family when everything was falling apart.”

“There is no one else on this earth I trust more to run Clara’s legacy,”

he added gently.

Elena stared at the papers,

her heart overflowing with profound emotion as tears of pure joy gathered in her eyes.

Mason ran over,

grabbing Elena by the hand and tugging her softly toward the dining table.

“Does this mean you are staying with us forever,

Elena?”

Mason asked,

his big brown eyes looking up at her with deep hope.

Elena looked from Mason to Caleb,

and then up at Daniel,

who was waiting for her answer with a quiet,

hopeful smile.

“Yes,

Mason,”

Elena answered,

May you like

wiping a happy tear from her cheek as she hugged the boy tightly.

“I am staying right here where I belong.”
